All you can eat seats a tasty option for Thrashers’ fans

ATLANTA – If there is one thing I love more than sports, it’s food.
(What’s that, honey? Yes, I love you and the kids, too. But you’re getting in the way of a blog here. I’ll take out the trash shortly).
Like I was saying, sports and food … good combination in my book. And this year, the Atlanta Thrashers are jumping on a trend that combines those two things I so dearly cherish.
Atlanta will offer all you can eat seats for games this season. Not familiar with the concept? You buy a ticket in a specific part of the arena, and with that ticket comes free food and drinks. What’s not to love?
The Atlanta Braves have offered all you can eat seats in the upper level and outfield section of Turner Field for the past two seasons. In the outfield seats, the all you can eat designation includes beer.
No such luck with the Thrashers – since I don’t drink beer, I don’t care. But all in all, it’s a great deal. For $39, you get a ticket in section 301 or 302 in the upper level of Philips Arena (behind the goal where the Thrashers attack in the second period; yeah, not exactly center-ice seats, but who cares?). You also get unlimited popcorn, hot dogs, nachos and soft drinks.
Now, if you’ve been to a professional sporting event lately, you know the cost of hitting the concession stand adds up. Quickly. When you take the wife and kids with you, the ol’ wallet is hurting by the second intermission. The face value of these tickets were $29 last season, so all you have to do is get a hot dog and a large drink and you’ve basically paid for the ticket. Everything else you consume during the game is a bonus.
If you want to sit closer to the action, all you can eat seats in sections 203, 204 and 205 (second level; again, behind the goal where Atlanta attacks in the second period) are $69.
Something to keep in mind as single-game tickets go on sale soon. Personally, I tend to sit in the cheap, cheap seats up at the top of the arena, which go for $10, and hit CNN Center for some cheap eats before the game. But there are times where you just can’t resist the smell of a hot dog and a cold Coke while at the game.
