Bud L. Ellis worked as a sports writer and sports editor for several daily newspapers throughout Georgia in the 1990s and 2000s. During his career, Ellis covered some of the world’s biggest sporting events, including the Super Bowl, the World Series, Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game, The Masters, major college football bowl games and the Daytona 500. Ellis covered local, high school, college and professional sports, along with hunting and fishing, and also covered news, politics, business and parenting/children’s issues as needed. Starting at age 17 as a sports correspondent with his hometown newspaper, Ellis spent the next 17 years covering high school sports, along with the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons, the Jacksonville Jaguars and University of Georgia football. A multiple winner of Georgia Sports Writers Association and Georgia Press Association honors, and part of the staff nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Group of 8 Summit in 2004, Ellis currently is a business writer who covers sports on a freelance basis in the Atlanta area, where he resides with his wife and two children.
